The ruins found in Stockhill Woods are believed to be remnants of Chewton Mineries. From the Hunters Lodge crossroads, going north, the road may have been further to the right and therefore could possibly have lead straight to the remnants of these mining spoils. From the information on the geological map which indicates lead veins in this locality, I chose to explore this area. What I found were moss covered pits and remnants of lead workings in a very undulating and uneven ground covered in a blanket of moss. This ground must have been the major source of lead for the Chewton Minery, the ruins od which are situated just down from Fair Lady Well, on the left of the causeway leading from Priddy Mineries going towards Stockhill Woods.
